Sally Wallace, associate professor and co-artistic director
of the Purdue Repertory Dance Company, received her M.F.A.
from Case Western Reserve University in 1992, and her M.A.
from Texas Woman's University in 1988. Her focus as an artist
is most represented in choreography and performed improvisation.
In 1995 Sally's work "Above Water" was recognized by the
American College Dance Festival and received Gala honor, and in
1998 her work "Tides and solitude" received the Gala honor as it
was performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. "Tides
and solitude" has since been commissioned by the Opening Door
Dance Company in San Marcus, Texas and Youth at Risk Dancing
(YARD) in Cleveland, OH, and Dallas and Austin, Texas. Sally's
current focus in performed improvisation developed into a written
work on techniques for performing. Sally received a Purdue Faculty
Grant to create this work and was invited by Congress on Research
in Dance to deliver her paper at the 1997 conference. Sally's
improvisational performance group has performed in Chicago, New York,
Texas, Cleveland and Arizona.
