Holly Jaycox is a part time faculty member in
the Dance Division, teaching introductory levels of Modern and
Jazz. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts / Dance from
the University of New Mexico.
Jaycox has a strong interest in functional anatomy,
which she incorporates in her Modern technique classes, using
a blend of Hawkins and Limon styles. Her study with the
faculty at Purdue has influenced her, as have past teachers,
including Lane Sayles and Eva Encinias.
Choreography is one of Jaycox 's primary interests.
Her works often have complex musical scores and incorporate
props or elements of other art mediums. She serves as the
faculty coordinator for a student choreography showcase each
semester.
Her work in Sally Wallace's Improvisation Project has
led to a love for improvisation as a performance art. She has
had the opportunity to perform both at Purdue and other
venues, including work with the Y.A.R.D. in Cleveland, Ohio.
This exploration of expression, performance and structure has
greatly complimented her growth as a choreographer.
Jaycox has taken part in Contact Improvisation
workshops with Andrew Harwood, Keriac, Jackie McCormick and
Karen Nelson. She plans to further investigate this form, both in
its pure form and in the context of performed improvisation.
When not dancing, Jaycox works for a non-profit
environmental organization involved with wolf conservation,
where she is editor of their quarterly magazine.
