Law and Society
Law, crime, deviance have been important concerns of sociology since its beginning. In addition, each of these areas of inquiry are intertwined with other crucial sociological concerns like social inequality, power, social organization, social psychology, social change, race, gender, culture, and communication.
The Purdue sociology program’s Law and Society section enables graduate students to specialize in the sociology of law, criminology, or the sociology of deviance--offering coursework, mentoring, and research opportunities in these three areas. The section’s faculty members also have expertise in qualitative, quantitative, and historical-comparative research methods.
