Carolyn Perrucci received her Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1965, and joined the faculty at Purdue University in 1966.

Dr. Perrucci served as Department Head from 1998 to 2003. She also served as Assistant Equal Opportunity Officer, Chair of Women's Studies and Associate Dean of the Graduate School. She conducts survey research on the economic status of retirees, and graduate educational attainment. Her research has been supported by: DOE, DOL, the Ford and Kellogg Foundations, Indiana AFL-CIO, and the CIC. She has co-authored or co-edited three books: Marriage and the Family: A Critical Analysis and Proposals for Change; Women in Scientific and Engineering Professions; and Plant Closings: International Context and Social Costs. Also, she has authored some forty scientific book chapters and articles in journals such as: American Sociological Review, International Journal of the Humanities, Journal of Marriage and the Family, Social Problems, Sociology and Social Research, Sociology of Education, and The Sociological Quarterly. She received the Helen Schleman Award and Violet Haas Award for service to women, and the Outstanding Teaching Award in her department. Active in professional associations, she served as President of the North Central Sociological Association and as Council Member (governing body) of the American Sociological Association. Currently, she is elected Vice President for the Study of Social Problems. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in the sociology of work and family, and the sociology of gender.
