The Audiology Clinic is open to the public, and offers services for a fee to people of all Audiology Clinicages, from infants to adults. The clinic's goal is to improve communication through diagnostic evaluation and rehabilitative intervention. The initial contact with the patient is typically a hearing assessment to determine the extent of the problem. Based on the results of this evaluation, recommendations are made regarding avenues available for improved hearing and communication.

The Audiology Clinic also provides evaluation and dispensing of hearing aids and assistive listening devices (i.e., FM listening systems, personal amplifiers, telephone amplifiers, and alarm/warning devices). An in-depth orientation is provided to ensure the proper care and use of the device, along with communication strategies to optimize benefit from the amplification devices.

The Audiology Clinic provides the following diagnostic services:

  • Hearing, speech, and language screenings for preschoolers and adults at various community locations
  • Industrial hearing evaluations
  • Diagnostic hearing testing of newborns
  • Comprehensive pediatric and adult hearing assessment
  • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing
  • Otoacoustic Emission (OAE) testing
  • Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) evaluation

The rehabilitation services offered at the Audiology Clinic include :

  • Hearing aid evaluation and dispensing
  • Assistive listening device evaluation and dispensing
  • Individualized aural rehabilitation therapy for hearing impaired children and adults utilizing hearing aids or cochlear implants in conjunction with the Speech-Language Clinic
  • Rehabilitative auditory communication training (ReACT) program, which is a three to four week group program for new and experienced hearing aid users and their families

Clinical faculty/staff:

The clinic has three full time and three half-time clinical faculty/staff who supervise graduate students in Audiology and provide direct services to patients of all ages.

Facilities/equipment:

The Clinic is fully equipped with state-of-the art equipment including three complete test suites with audiometers and immittance bridges, two of which are also set up for pediatric assessment. There are also three consultation rooms set up with computers, probe microphone systems and hearing aid programming capability and a separate test suite for infant assessments.

Location:

The Clinic is located on the basement floor of Heavilon Hall on the Purdue University campus.  Clinic facilities are accessible to physically handicapped persons via a ground level entrance and elevators.  Parking is available for patients at designated parking meters during regular business hours (8:00 am – 5:00 pm) in front of Heavilon Hall.  Additional parking is available in the Grant Street Parking Garage if meter parking is full.  Payment is required to park in the garage when exiting the garage.
