Wendy Stallard Flory has a B.A. Hons. in English from Bedford College of the University of London and a Ph.D. in American Literature from the University of Texas at Austin. She teaches graduate courses on Modern American Poetry and on Contemporary Poetry. Her publications include two books with Yale University Press (A Record of Struggle: Ezra Pound and The Cantos and The American Ezra Pound); the Ezra Pound entry in DLB-45; a Cambridge Companion essay, “Pound and Antisemitism;” “Confucius Against Confusion” (in Ezra Pound and China). Recent essays in collections are: on Pierre’s Isabel (in Melville and Women), on Moby-Dick (in Ungraspable Phantom) and on Typee and W. S. Merwin’s The Folding Cliffs (in Whole Oceans Away). A book manuscript, “Inside Stories: The Great American Romance,” is under consideration at a press. It has chapters on works by Poe, Melville, Hawthorne, Henry James, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Sendak, and Morrison. She is working on a companion volume, “Inside Stories/2: Romance Characters in the Ruins of Cultures.” Among her other research interests are Holocaust documents, the psychology of persecution, and contemporary Chinese poetry (in translation).
