Welcome to Interdisciplinary Studies at Purdue!
The Office of Interdisciplinary Studies (IDIS) provides administrative support for fourteen interdisciplinary programs: American Studies, Asian Studies, Asian American Studies, Classical Studies, Comparative Literature, Film/Video Studies, Global Studies, Italian Studies, Latin American and Latino Studies, Linguistics, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Peace Studies, Philosophy and Literature Ph.D. Program, and Religious Studies. The Office provides a graduate secretary for American Studies, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics. IDIS works with African American Studies, Jewish Studies, and Women's Studies to facilitate communication and cooperation and to increase the visibility of all interdisciplinary endeavors in the College. The Interdisciplinary Studies programs together represent an academic unit with its own resources and budgets, and representation on the Council of Department Heads. It has a three member, permanent staff, and office and meeting space. The IDIS office was founded in 2003 when Susan Curtis was appointed Director. In August 2006, Susan Curtis was promoted to Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Programs and Engagement. In 2008, Susan Curtis stepped down as Associate Dean. JoAnn Miller, Professor of Sociology and an affiliated member of the Women's Studies faculty, was appointed Associate Dean. As Susan Curtis was, she will be responsible for IDIS and Engagement Programs, and will administer the external reviews for the college.
