Welcome to Interdisciplinary Studies at Purdue!
The Office of Interdisciplinary Studies provides administrative support for thirteen interdisciplinary programs (American Studies, Asian Studies, Asian American Studies, Classical Studies, Comparative Literature, Film/Video Studies, Italian Studies, Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies, Linguistics, Medieval & Renaissance Studies, Peace Studies, Philosophy and Literature, and Religious Studies) to facilitate communication and cooperation among these programs and three other interdisciplinary programs in the college - African American Studies, Jewish Studies and Women's Studies; and to increase the visibility of interdisciplinary endeavors in the college. The Interdisciplinary Studies programs together represent an academic unit with representation on the Council of Department Heads, with opportunities to garner resources previously available mostly to departments, with a three-member staff devoted to the needs of the programs, and with office and meeting space. The office was founded in 2003; in August 2006, the Director, Susan Curtis, was promoted to Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Programs and Engagement. Her new responsibilities will include working with departments, faculty and students to forge a focused engagement strategy. She will also administer the external reviews for the College. In 2008, Susan Curtis stepped down as Associate Dean and was replaced by JoAnn Miller. Dean Miller began her responsibilities on July 1, 2008.
