JPNS 54300 : Modern Japanese Popular Literature and Culture; Prerequisite: JPNS 341 and JPNS 342. A study of modern Japanese entertainment literature, together with cinema, comic strips, animations, and contemporary theaters. Emphasis is on the examination of the development of the modern Japanese cultural consciousness expressed in the area of popular literature and culture.

JPNS 59400 : Special Topics in Japanese Literature; May be repeated for credit; Prerequisite: Knowledge of advanced Japanese and consent of instructor. Reading and extensive discussion of selected texts from different writers and genres. Provides in-depth research on a variety of issues related to Japanese literary and cultural traditions.

JPNS 65900 : Seminar in Japanese Literature; Advanced study of special subjects in Japanese literature. Topics to be announced in advance. Permission of instructor required.
