Employment

African American Studies and Research Center provides several employment opportunities for undergraduates and graduate students.

Undergraduates who qualify for work study and have an interest in African American Studies are particularly encouraged to apply.  Work study employment involves general office work, such as copying, filing, and answering phones as well as creative work such as creating displays.  Those interested in work study employment may fill out the following form and submit it to the AASRC office.

Graduate students may apply for teaching assistantship.

Teaching assistants initially work with a professor as a grader and teaching assistant, while more advanced teaching assistants teach their own courses.  Some knowledge of an aspect of African American studies, such as African American history, African American literature, etc. is essential.  Masters students may apply, but preference is given to Ph.D. students for teaching positions.

Teaching assistants are provided with faculty mentoring as well as several enrichment workshops.  Those interested in applying for either position may fill out the following form and submit it to the AASRC office.

Although openings are not always available, we do keep applications on file for a year and will consult these before posting an open position.
