Health & Kinesiology Graduate Students Organization
The Health & Kinesiology Graduate Student Organization (HKGSO) includes all HK graduate students. The officers will be elected at the beginning of each Fall semester. The officers from the HKGSO serve as a liaison between the graduate student body and the HK Graduate faculty. The contact person for the 2007-08 school year is Michael Hemphill (mhemphil@purdue.edu)
The HKGSO believes that a graduate education in the department prepares individuals to serve in a variety of important roles facilitating the betterment of society. Therefore, the HKGSO serves to represent any individuals who may be pursuing graduate study in any of the department’s fields of study on either a full-time or part-time basis. The HKGSO encourages active involvement from students whether they are employed by the department, other agencies on or off-campus, or financing their own graduate education.
Function
The HK Graduate Student Organization has traditionally striven to serve students in several ways. In particular, the organization has worked to promote peer interaction on a personal and professional level. Elected representatives serve to improve communication and interaction between faculty, staff, and the graduate student body. Furthermore, representatives have worked to serve as a sounding board for the concerns of graduate and to process suggestions for improving the day-to-day workings of the department. Continued input by the graduate student body will only enhance the role that the HK-GSO plays in serving faculty, staff, and student members of the department.
Projects
Projects undertaken by the HKGSO include a t-shirt sale fundraiser, organization of social activities, development of criteria for graduate student awards, formation of a graduate student colloquium, and even small grant applications. New ideas are welcome to enhance the experience of graduate students in the department specifically and during graduate study in general.
