European Empire History.
I currently teach HIST 104, the History of the Modern World, as well as courses examining European imperialism and decolonization. My other teaching and research interests include social and cultural responses to war and trauma, especially memorialization and commemoration; the Netherlands; World Wars One and Two; the Holocaust and comparative genocide; and the development of legal, political, and popular discourses concerning human rights.

A native New Yorker, I received my Ph.D. and M.A. in Modern Western European History from Columbia University, and my B.A. in anthropology from Fordham University. I have also studied at both the University of Amsterdam and the University of Helsinki.
At present, I am working on a manuscript entitled The Kingdom Shall Rise Again: Dutch Resistance, Collaboration, and Imperial Planning in the Nazi-Occupied Netherlands. This work examines Dutch experiences with war, occupation, imperialism, decolonization, specifically focusing upon the attempts of leading anti-Nazi resisters to create a new “imperial consciousness” in the wartime Netherlands.
I will not be teaching classes this spring, as I will spend January-May 2008 in residence at the Remarque Institute of New York University.
