African American History
My research focuses on intersections of race and class and how they have affected African Americans' pursuit of full citizenship in the twentieth century.
Professor Bynum received his Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Virginia. He is currently working on a book manuscript tentatively titled, “A. Philip Randolph and the Reconciliation of Race and Class,” that examines how A. Philip Randolph’s ideas about social justice, mass action, race, and class shaped African American protest politics from the 1930s through the civil rights era of the 1960s and beyond.
