Story 1 December 12. 2007 -
Assistant Professor Jennifer Foray has been selected to
participate in the National History Center's Seminar on
Decolonization in Washington D.C. In the summer 2008, the
month-long seminar will enable her to conduct research at the
Library of Congress and National Archives, as well as
participate in the discussions of the seminar. |

Story 2 December 3. 2007 -
Assistant Professor Juan Wang has received a post-doctoral
fellowship from Academia Sinica, the most prestigious academic
institution in the Republic of China. She will be in
Taiwan for a year beginning in January 2008. In addition
to her research, she will still direct HIST 241: Asia in the
Modern World study abroad course to the People's Republic in
May. |

Story 3 November 26. 2007 - Corrina Smith, History Undergraduate has won the annual
Undergraduate Essay Contest through the North American
Conference on British Studies (NACBS). Ms. Smith's won
with her essay on Queen Victoria and the film, "Mrs. Brown"
completed in HIST 195 (Freshman Seminar: History, Film and the
Historian's Craft). |

Story 4 November 12. 2007 -
In October 2007, Professor Janet Afary and Kevin B. Anderson -
professor of political science - were named first runner-up of
the 2007 Biennial Association for Humanist Sociology Book Award
for their book "Foucault and the Iranian Revolution: Gender and
the Seductions of Islamism." |

Story 5 October 24. 2007 -
Professor Janet Afary becomes the recipient of the Keddiw/Balzan
Fellowship which is awarded by the International Balzan Prize
Foundation. This Fellowship is awarded by invitation only.
The fellowship includes the opportunity to spend the 2008-2009
academic year at UCLA. Appointment as a Keddie/Balzan
Fellow recognizes Professor Afary's stellar accomplishments and
contribution to scholarship in her field. |

Story 6 September 28, 2007,
Professor of History Randy Roberts was named "Distinguished
Professor of History" by the Board of Trustees. Professor
Roberts came to Purdue's History department in August 1988,
specializing in recent U.S. History, U.S. sports history, and
the history of popular culture. He received his Ph.D. from
Louisiana State in 1978. |
