Applications of Narratology
THROUGHOUT
THIS GUIDE TO
THEORY, I have tried,
when possible, to offer a certain consistency to the applications by
analyzing the same material from different theoretical perspectives.
As in each of the sections in this Guide to Theory, I offer one application
through a reading of the Dürer image associated with Narratology.
As a second application, I closely examine a simple sentence, "The
road is clear," to illustrate how the precepts of narratology and
structuralism can help us to unpack the complexity of language even
at the micro-level. The application to Wuthering Heights functions
as an introduction to Roland Barthes and his exposition of the five
codes of narrative in S/Z. For the applications, click on the
images to the left.
