The University of Victoria hosted a wonderful conference on "Victorian Materialities." Despite the evident temptation of a surprisingly sunny Victoria, conferencegoers were treated to an array of papers, pedagogical workshops, and plenary sessions. The second consecutive joint meeting (this time with the Victorian Studies Association of Western Canda) provided ample opportunity for exchanging ideas and insights. {More}
Victorian Studies will run another special issue dedicated to the NAVSA conference—it will be issue 50.2.
In addition to several fine papers from the U of Victoria conference, the issue will feature Philippa Levine's plenaray address on "'States of Undress': Nakedness and the Colonial Imagination." {More}
At the 2007
conference banquet, NAVSA presented the second annual Donald Gray Prize for best essay published in the previous year. The award went to Martin Hewitt, and Caroline Levine received honorable mention. We are also delighted to announce that Paul Fyfe won the award for the best paper presented at the annual conference
by a graduate student, with honorable mentions going to Maeve Adams and Jesse Rosenthal. {More}
