Melanie Shoffner is Assistant Professor of English Education with a joint appointment in the College of Education’s Curriculum and Instruction department. Her specialties are secondary English language arts, pre-service teacher reflection, technology in English teacher education and the teaching of literature in secondary schools. Her courses include Literature in the Secondary School (ENGL 492), Teaching English in Secondary Schools (ECDI 422) and Reading in Middle/High School (EDCI 502).

Dr. Shoffner completed her Ph.D. in Education at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 2006; prior to that, she earned an A.B. in English and History and an M.A.T. in English Education at Duke University. She regularly presents at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Conference, the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Convention, and the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE) Conference. Recent publications include “Informal reflection in pre-service teacher education” (Reflective Practice, 2008) and “Pre-service English teachers and technology: A consideration of weblogs for the English classroom” (Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education (CITE) [Online] at http://www.citejournal.org/vol7/iss4/languagearts/article1.cfm).
