1954

book

Raymond S. Ross, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, Wayne State University, has a new book published in July 2005 titled "When Your Number's Up: Meritocracy Goes to War." Communication and psychology play heavy parts in this World War II story of a frontline combat squad in an armored division. The author of 20 editions of eight popular college textbooks, Dr. Ross, now at age 80, thought it time to break the silence and write a book about frontline action in World War II, telling it very much like it happened to him.

1960

R. Wayne Pace, Ph.D., participated in the sport of lawn bowling and received a bronze medal in the over 70 years of age singles competition in the Huntsman World Senior Games, October 2005, held in St. George, Utah. Also, with two colleagues from Australia, Adela McMurray and Don Scott, Pace published a book called "Research: a commonsense approach" (Thomson Learning Australia) 2004. His book (with Eric Stephan), "Powerful Leadership" (Financial Times Prentice Hall, 2002) was recently released in Chinese. Also, within a week of each other, he and wife Gae's 22nd grandchild (Las Vegas, NV) and 5th great grandchild (Cedar City, UT) were born.

1961

Harry Sharp, Ph.D., fully retired as of June 2005 after 42 years in academia. He is currently Professor and Dean Emeritus, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he worked at last 30 years.

1965

Cal Smith, Ph.D., retired from Eastern Illinois University in 1998 after teaching there for more than 32 years. He keeps busy with Habitat for Humanity, genealogical research, historical preservation and maintaining physical fitness. He ran his second marathon on his 70th birthday in February. "I wrote an article regarding the 'Rhetoric of Running' a few years ago, so I guess you could say I'm doing 'on-going research' on the subject."

1966

John J. Godfrey, B.A., is developing Internet products and editing series on teaching English to Japanese using Disney characters. Upgraded to HDTV Cameras and editing systems. 1967

William Hicks, B.A., coached Brebeuf Jesuit Debate Team to a National Forensic League Championship in Philadelphia in June. He also is the featured forensics coach in the ROSTRUM for October.

1968

Lucy Ackerman (Hazledine), B.A., has been living in Denver since 1996 and is the Manager of Exhibits and Sponsorships for the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

1969

Roger D. Priest, M.A. (B.A. 1964), is Communication Program Chair and Assistant Professor of Communication at Ivy Tech State College's showpiece Lafayette campus. Named to "Who's Who Among America's Teachers?" in 2004 and 2005.

1971

Blanton Croft, Ph. D., is serving as a part-time Adjunct Professor at Hagerstown Community College for the present year. Additionally, Dr. Croft was selected as the county's representative in the state of Maryland's Governor's Awards for each county's Most Beautiful People (Volunteer Services to Health Care Facilities). State winners will be guests of the governor for lunch and receive a plaque for representing each county as Maryland's Caring and Compassion in Health Care, 2005.

1972

Judith Richardson Wilkinson, B.A., received a law degree from Indiana University-Bloomington in 1989. She is currently employed by the Indiana University School of Dentistry as a Research Fiscal Officer and Industrial Liaison. She has two children, Lindsay, B.S. in chemical engineering from Washington University-St. Louis who is currently employed by Clark Richardson and Biskup, a design engineering firm and James, a navy veteran currently working for Evolution Technologies as an Electrical Eng. installer and who is working on his engineering degree.

Chris Benjamin, B.A., following a 20-year career in broadcast TV, he has been continuing his own business started in 1990 as a freelance writer, producer and director servicing the broadcast television industry and business television. His company, Benjamin Creative Productions, is presently writing and producing episodes for Court TV's "Forensic Files" series, as well as other projects. Two weeks ago, they traveled to the Bahamas to shoot the latest "Forensic Files" episode. Recently he interviewed Kid Rock for an A&E "Biography" show and recently directed a live awards show for the Automotive Hall of Fame that featured Mario Andretti and legendary drag racer Shirley Muldowney.

1974

Barry Morris, B.A., is presently the Chair of Communication Studies at Pace University in NYC. The department has just opened PAMELA -- the Pace All Mobile Electronic Literacy Apparatus. In conjunction with Project Pericles, the department will be teaching its students to go into the community and teach activists and non-profit concerns to use commonly available digital media in support of their programs. At the center of the plan is what the department has dubbed the "Ad Hocumentary"--a scenario in which one of the volunteers would work with an organization, movement, etc. to make a documentary of its own existence. Through the act of documenting themselves to others, social activists and non-profit workers will not only be better able to promote themselves and their services but let others gain a deeper understanding of and appreciation for their personal contributions to society.

1975

Kenneth Paulin, Ph.D., (M.A., 68), "participated" in his 46th marathon (finishing the 26.2 mile "running event" in 5 hours 1 minute and 15 seconds) in August. In April, he was a presenter at the International Listening Association conference held in Minneapolis, Minn. The topic of his presentation was "Listen to God for Empowerment."

1976

Mary Patitsas Giapponi, B.A., is president of Tutors Inc., a Lancaster, Ohio-based company that works with students, grades 9-12, with learning difficulties, study skills, writing skills, and basic language skills.

Mary Wise, Ph.D., (M.A., 1972), is currently Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs at Elon University in North Carolina. She was recently elected state coordinator of "Women Administrators in North Carolina Higher Education."

1977

Martha England, B.A., relocated to Austin from New Mexico. Same parent company - MedCath. Current position - Vice President Business Development at Heart Hospital of Austin.

1978

Kathleen J. Turner, Ph.D., touched base with Perry Hammock, M.A., 1977 at Davidson College in Davidson, N.C. Turner, Professor of Communication Studies, is starting a brand-new program at Davidson, and Perry and his wife, Chris, delivered daughter Emily to begin her college career there. Perry is Executive Director of Development at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis.

1979

Mary L. Davidsen, B.A., serves as Director, Chief Environmental Law Judge, Indiana Office of Environmental Adjudication, providing initial administrative judicial review of determinations made by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. She earned her J.D.from IU Indianapolis School of Law in 1992 and M.B.A. from Univ. of Indpls. in 1984, along with 15 years in television business development. She has been married since 1981 to James Davidsen, CPA (Indiana Central Univ. 1979), daughter Emma (10 years old) is aspiring Purdue student. They live and renovate 1887 home in Noblesville.

1980

Robert E. Denton Jr., Ph.D., W. Thomas Rice Chair at Virginia Tech, has several recent publications: an edited volume on the 2004 presidential campaign (Rowman & Littlefield), an article in the campaign issue of American Behavioral Scientist (Vol. 49, No. 1, 11-31) titled “Religion and the 2004 Presidential Campaign,” and a trade book titled Moral Leadership and the American Presidency (Rowman & Littlefield).

1981

Angie Klink
Angie Klink, B.A., contributed to a new book, titled "Our Fathers Who Art in Heaven and what they continue to teach us." Her story about her late father, Jack Lipp (also a Purdue alumnus), is published in the book.

Branna McCarty Smith, B.A., a worklife manager at Purdue, became a certified Franklin Covey trainer.  She is conducting workshops and trainings for staff and faculty throughout campus on the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" as well as various other Covey offerings.

Rose Marie Burke, B.A., joined the Paris office of Standard & Poor's Ratings Services, a division of McGraw-Hill, as an editor in the banking and insurance sector in September 2004. She had worked the previous 10 years as a freelance journalist, also based in Paris.

1982

Krissie Kraft Gausman, B.A., is living in beautiful Southern California, where she has been since she left Purdue. She is married with two daughters and currently teaches at an elementary school in the same city where she lives.

Donna Samuels Rogers, B.A., has been married to Dr. Dave Rogers for 22 years. They have 2 children, Brookley (15) Brandt (12). Brookley plays AAA girls Hockey, Select Soccer, Varsity Soccer at Brookfield East High School. Brandt also plays hockey, football and baseball. They spend time up North as well, where Donna's parents, Dale Samuels (former Purdue QB 1948-52, Coach and Assoc. AD)and mother Dawn live now. They still attend Purdue football games. "Driving around Wisconsin with "PRRDUE" on my license plate creates some strange looks, but as I always say...'You can take ME out of Boilermaker Country but you can't take the Boilermaker out of ME'!"

1983

Timothy P. Ward, B.A., was promoted to Vice President, Management and Executive Compensation, at AT&T Corp. Tim has been with AT&T for 15 years assuming positions of increasing responsibility.

Steve May, B.A., (M.A. 1985), Associate Professor of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been named an Ethics Fellow at the Parr Center for Ethics. He recently co-edited "Engaging Organizational Communication Theory and Research" with Dennis Mumby. His forthcoming book, "Case Studies in Organizational Communication: Ethical Perspectives and Practices" will be published in March 2006.

Jane Ann DeMoss, B.A., is Graphic Design Manager for Rotary International, located in Evanston, Ill. In July 2005, her international Graphic Design team received two American InHouse Design Awards from Graphic Design USA. In June of 2005, Jane became President of the Woman's Club of Evanston, a 450 member, non-profit organization that is dedicated to community outreach and philanthropic service for north shore communities. Jane lives in Evanston with her husband David, and his two sons, Christopher and Blake.

1984

John Gerdes, B.A., is in his 18th year at the University of South Florida, where he is the assistant director of athletics - media relations. Additionally, he has worked at eight consecutive NCAA Men's Final Fours as a member of the NCAA Media Coordination Committee. He is married (Debbie) and they have two sons (Kyle, 11 and Cody, 10), each of whom hopes to become a third generation Boilermaker. His father, Charles Gerdes, graduated in EE in December 1952.

Marsha Jones, B.A., has just completed her second novel, "Win...Win." Her first novel, "Love Begins With Truth," will be published in the spring of 2006 by St. Vincent's Press. And she will begin work on her third novel, "Pin Pals," in January.

Karen (Marner) Laurich, B.A., continues as a Production Business Manager at Element 79 Partners advertising agency in Chicago.

Julie Athan Newcomb, B.A., has worked for Lincoln Financial Group as a financial planner for 20 years. She lives in southern California and has two children.

1985

Chris Vosmeier, B.A., recently earned the special designation of Senior Investment Consultant with Robert W. Baird & Co. Inc.

Pamela Pedersen Albrecht, B.A., was promoted to Vice President of Mark James & Associates Inc., a business advisory and process improvement company. The company designs, builds and maintains integrated marketing and business improvement solutions that leverage clients' strengths and improve the delivery of their brand promise.

Kathy Schembs Joyce, M.A., is the vice president of marketing for Wabash Valley Power in Indianapolis.

1986

Peter J. Oleshchuk, B.A., currently living and working in Indianapolis. He has been developing a new radio format called "Pop Radio - The Best Variety of the 80s, 90s and Now." He is currently looking for affiliate stations to carry the format. More info at popradioonline.com.

1987

Charles Vogt

Charles B. Vogt III, B.S., has been appointed Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer.  Chuck is responsible for implementing strategic U.S. expansion plans and leading new business development efforts for Bremner & Wiley and for the Bremner/Duke healthcare joint venture. He has been instrumental assisting the development division in being selected for over $300,000,000 in development projects in the last three years alone. He will also continue to oversee the marketing functions for the company.

Lisa Crispin Lehmann, B.A., was in publishing for 13 years in Chicago and Houston before going into semi-retirement to accompany her husband on an overseas assignment in London. They have been living in Cobham, Surrey, in the UK for the past 2 1/2 years and their boys, Jared, 9, and Reece, 6, attend the International School, which they love. "I now spend my time planning travel, entertaining guests, going on long country hikes, being a Scout Leader and serving on the International Youth Sports Board as the program administrator. It has been a tremendous opportunity for the entire family and we feel very fortunate. We have travelled all over Europe, to South Africa twice and to Dubai on summer and school break holidays."

Sue Sgambelluri, B.A., is currently the Director of Development for Corporate & Foundation Relations in the College of Arts & Sciences at Indiana University. "I have very positive memories of Professors Charles Stewart, Linda Putnam, and Mitzi Deselles."

Mary Kay Copeland Conley, B.A., after almost 15 years in corporate environments, she started a human resources consulting business, Human Resource Results, in August of 2004. She partners with for-profit and non-profit organizations to help them solve their people-related issues, especially those that relate to compensation and benefits.

Monica Meenan, B.A., was recently appointed Director, Television Development for Real Simple Magazine, which is part of Time Inc. "Real Simple TV" will premiere on PBS in January 2006.

Cheryl Lightfoot, B.A., has been promoted to Promotions Administrator for Toledo's WB affiliate, WT05, a cable only station in Toledo, Ohio.

1989

Laura D. (Straub) White, B.A., currently splits her time between being a stay-at-home mom and being an assistant editor for a medical journal, "American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation." "I've been blessed to be able to use my educational background in my asst. editor position as well as homeowners' board work and organizing events at my home church. Purdue is still a big part of my family's life as we travel from Avon, Ind., to campus for basketball and football games. Our youngest (age 9) is being heavily 'recruited' by the summer camps for gifted students."

Scott Harrison, B.A., was promoted to the Executive Director of the Chrysler and Jeep Dealer Association Account Services for BBDO Worldwide, which handles the global advertising account for Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep on behalf of DaimlerChrysler Corporation.

Liz Yamamoto, B.A., was promoted from Director of News Proposals to Vice President of News Proposals for ABC-TV in New York.

1990

Christine Nance Troglio, M.S., recently assumed responsibility for college relations for the Corporate Employment Services Department with Caterpillar in Peoria, IL.  After working in Human Resources for 9 years with Caterpillar, she is looking forward to re-establishing ties with Purdue to help recruit communication students for internship and full-time opportunities at Caterpillar. She also teaches Children's Literature as an adjunct faculty member with Illinois Central College in Peoria, Ill.

Jill Bode, B.A., is a principal in Designed Write Public Relations Inc., a PR firm that focuses on promoting unusual businesses in the Midwest.  Bode has had several articles published in business periodicals and is currently working to combine public relations concepts with word of mouth marketing techniques to create customer-sustained awareness for her clients. She has spent several weeks over the past few months volunteering as part of the Rapid Response Team for the American Red Cross. She has responded to many of this season’s hurricanes, including Katrina, Rita & Wilma. Bode has volunteered with the Red Cross for more than a decade.

Regina Carswell, B.A., news anchor/reporter for FOX19 in Cincinnati, Ohio, wed Matthew J. Russo in Italy, Sept. 8. Regina's married and professional name will be Regina Russo. Matthew and Regina will reside in Cincinnati.

Liza Mutzl, B.A., adopted a little girl from China in the summer of 2003.

Karen Hutton, B.A., was recently promoted to Director of Sales Operations for Alimera Sciences Inc. She began full time at Alimera as Director of Human Resources & Planning in January 2005 and after 8 months in that role, she was identified as the best candidate for the new role, which utilizes her project management skills.

1991

Michelle Haas-Milligan, married Oct. 25, 2003, to Scott Milligan (Ball State).

1992

Logan Wilcoxson, B.A., and his wife Melissa (Blevins) Wilcoxson (B.A. 95) own and operate the Little Rock Climbing Center in Little Rock, Ark. The climbing center is the first indoor rock climbing gym in Little Rock and was opened in August of 2003.

Pete Greenley, B.A., became engaged to Sylvia Zele (B.A., UCLA) on May 15, 2005. The wedding is scheduled for July 2006 in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Shannon Sanford, B.A., accepted the position of Vice President, Human Resources for Amoco Federal Credit Union. As a result, she has relocated to Houston, Texas.

Jeanne Karver, B.A., after being hired to teach a few dressage courses in the Equestrian Studies department at Averett University, she was asked to create an entire curriculum. The curriculum is based on the USDF certification requirements and has been accepted. The courses already have full enrollment. AU is the only university to offer a dressage program based on certification requirements and taught by a USDF certified trainer.

Deborah Verney, B.A., was just hired as a Channel Support Manager for Tuyo Mobile - and IDT Wireless company. Tuyo Mobile, directed to newly arrived Latinos, will be launching with its first pre-paid product on a limited basis in November.

Jacqueline Crymes, B.A., is serving as the Communications Manager for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee. In this position, she supervises activities for media relations, cause related marketing and Web-based communications. In addition to her work with the clubs, Jacqueline is the chair of King Advisory, Inc., dedicated to providing low-income children with book bags and school supplies through the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Back-to-School Festival. In 2005, nearly 5,100 children received free bookbags and supplies.

1993

Mark McCollum, B.A., was recently promoted to Senior Network Specialist with ExxonMobil in Houston, Texas, where he lives with wife Melissa (Chouinard) McCollum (Education 1993) and their 3-year-old daughter, Caitlin.

Matthew Clark, B.A., is working for Dell in Europe as sales leader for small and medium business division for England and Ireland. I'm married 10 years with 2 young boys.

Rob Spalding, M.A., and wife Kim Spalding announce the birth of their daughter, Ava Leigh, on August 6, 2005, in Seattle. She is happy and healthy and looks exactly like her big sister, Kate.

1994

Michelle Foland (Lewis), B.A., and husband Jeff (Purdue ME, BS 1994) welcomed their second son, Reece Jeffrey Foland, on Sept. 22, 2004.  Michelle is on leave from her position as vice president, consumer brands at Edelman Public Relations in Chicago.

1995

Tracy N. Anderson, B.A., received a Master's degree in 2003 in Business Administration. She is completing her eighth year as Newscast Director for WBNS-10TV in Columbus, Ohio. She is engaged to be married to Lee Patton in the fall of 2006.

Stephen Curtis, M.A., and his wife, Vicki, have a two and half year old daughter, Emma Rachel. He still teaches at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, CT.

Aimee Burns Miller, B.A., gave birth to Lauren Amelia Miller on Sept. 7. She was 6 lbs, 11ozs and 19 inches long.

Alyse Vordermark, B.A., recently took the position of Director of Sales for TravelHost Magazine in Portland, OR.

Marty Buss Smith, B.A., has started a marketing consulting practice in the Boston area, providing Marketing Communications Planning and Project Management, Marketplace and Competitive Analysis, and Marketing Strategy Development.

1996

Brian Gerstenberger, B.A., was recently promoted to senior video production coordinator for DirectBuy. He lives in Valparaiso, has been married for
8 years now, and has a son, Isaac, 3, and a daughter, Olivia, 19 months. He is expecting his third child in March of next year.

Rachel Armbruster, B.A., has been working at the Lance Armstrong Foundation for 5 years this November. She started as the Director of Events and Sponsorships and has been promoted to the Director of Development. In January, she will become the General Manager of the LIVESTRONG Rides organization and General Manager of the Foundation's merchandise and cause marketing organization. "Since I arrived at the Foundation we have increased our fundraising income from $250,000 to over $55 million a year. As the daughter of a cancer survivor, I am extremely proud of the work that I do for the millions of survivors in the United States."

Jenny Herold, B.A., gave birth to Zachary Kent on June 20, 2005.

Mike Smith, Ph.D., directs the graduate program in Professional Communication at La Salle University in Philadelphia. This August, he was named the Distinguished Lasallian Educator, an award that recognizes excellent teaching and devotion to community service.

Angi Hatfield Pechman, B.A., and husband Matty welcomed a little boy on Feb. 11, 2005. William Richard weighed in at 6 pounds, 10 ounces and was 18-1/2" long.

1997

Angela Rickard, B.A., moved to Atlanta, Ga., and accepted a position as Director of Marketing for Delta Apparel.

Brian Crane, B.A., is a Business Analyst with Coca-Cola Enterprises in Atlanta. He and wife Elizabeth had their first child, Anastasia Elizabeth Crane, in October 2004.

Maureen Kaiser, B.A., works as a market communications area manager at Paramount's Kings Island in Cincinnati. In her role, she serves as the park's spokeswoman and runs its community relations program, PKI Cares.

1998

Melissa (Amburgey) Johnson, B.A., and husband (Eric Johnson - Ag Econ 1995) welcomed their first child, Evan Eugene, on April 1, 2005. She is currently working as the National/Regional Sales Director for WKHY and WXXB-FMs in Lafayette, Ind.

Brett Creech, B.A., was hired in July as the Coordinator of Distance Education at Ivy Tech Community College in Lafayette, Ind.

Elizabeth Francis, B.A., is living in Las Vegas and working in the field of Human Resources at the corporate level. She has been with this firm for 5.5 years and continues to grow into more involved projects in HR.

Kimberly (Wilson) Preston, B.A., in November of 2004, she started her new job as Political Director for U.S. Sen. Richard G. Lugar's 2006 re-election campaign. Prior to that she served two years as Press Secretary for the Indiana Republican Party.

1999

Joy Cypher, Ph.D., (M.A., 1994), was promoted to Associate Professor of Communication Studies at Rowan University. She is also serving as Chair of the Disability Issues Caucus of NCA and Vice Chair of the Voices of Diversity Interest Group of ECA.

Joye Gordon, Ph.D., most recently returned from a weeklong data gathering trip to southeast Louisiana including New Orleans. The National Science Foundation funded project explores geographical, psychological, and social factors related to compliance with mandatory hurricane evacuation orders in seven coastal Louisiana parishes prior to Katrina.  Understanding these factors will help public authorities and agencies design more effective hurricane preparedness and evacuation programs. Before joining the faculty at Kansas State, where she is an associate professor in the A. Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications, she spent five years teaching in southeast Louisiana where she still have strong family ties.

2000

Lindsey (Seward) Trausch, B.A., works as an account executive for National Speed Sport News, America's oldest weekly motorsports publication (founded in 1934), in Charlotte, N.C. In addition to her role at NSSN, she also competes in the United States Auto Club's (USAC) Ford Focus Midget Series in both the Carolina/Virginia and Midwest Series. These are the same type of racecars in which fellow Purdue alum Ryan Newman began his racing career.

Megan Thom Kearns, B.A., got married to Timothy Kearns, who is also a Purdue alum, on Oct. 11, 2003. She is currently living in Milwaukee, Wisc. She previously worked for publishing companies in Albany, N.Y., and Atlanta, Ga. In Atlanta, she was an editor for Boating World magazine and is still writing for that magazine on a freelance basis. Currently, she's a student at Cardinal Stritch University in pursuit of her master's degree and teaching certification in elementary education. "I'm excited about my career change and heading into the world of academia!"

Brian Remsberg, B.A., and his wife Jennifer moved to Greenville, S.C., in August. He is opening an office for Imre Communications in Greenville to better service its Techtronic Industries and Home Depot accounts in the areas of public relations and marketing support.

Danica (Maher) Kirkpatrick, B.A., gave birth to a daughter, Kacey Michelle Kirkpatrick, on October 3.

Scott Caplan, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of communication in the Department of Communication at the University of Delaware, in Newark, DE.

Laura (Anthony) Bukowski, B.A., was to speak to Dr. Robin Clair's Problems in Advertising class (COM 356) as part of the Liberal Arts Alumni Speaker Program. Laura graduated in 2000 with a Communication degree and an advertising concentration. She has worked at Starcom MediaVest Group in Chicago since graduation and was to share job search, resume and interviewing tips as well as the types of jobs one can obtain with an advertising degree.

Adrianne Kunkel,, Ph.D., was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Kansas.

Jessica Willis, B.A., in August, she completed her MBA with a specialization in Media Management from Metropolitan College of New York, located in New York, NY. Kathryn E. Ours Wiley, B.A., is an Associate on the Business and Finance Team, specializing in Private Capital and Venture Funds, Mergers & Acquisitions and Business Planning with Baker & Daniels in Indianapolis.

Miranda (Emmert) Marrs, B.A., received a degree in paralegal studies in May 2005. She recently joined Meridian Title Corporation's Valparaiso, Ind., office in the escrow department.

Anna Craig, B.A., was recently promoted to the Rental Support Center Coordinator with Enterprise Rent-A-Car. She started with the company two years ago as a Managment Trainee, was promoted nearly a year ago to Branch Business Coordinator, and was promoted to her current position in July 2005.

Jennifer Slawson, B.A., has been promoted to Product Licensing Manager at AARP Services, the wholly owned for-profit subsidiary of AARP, in Washington, DC.

Beth (Lemmon) Munk, B.A., is now working as a children's librarian and in her first semester of grad school. "Waiting to go to grad school was worth it!"

Stephany (Rechtsteiner) Hessler , B.A., was recently promoted to Marketing & Special Events Coordinator at Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration in Mystic, CT.

Amber Colville McAfee, B.A., got married in October 2003.  Her husband is a U.S. Marine and they are currently stationed near New Orleans. She works as a teacher for Belle Chasse Academy, a school near the base.

Lauren LaLiberte Mielcarz, B.A., was married April 23, 2005, to Jeff Mielcarz, host of The Weather Channel's Road Crew. They were married in Atlanta at Villa Christina with 100 guests in attendance.

Megan Funk, B.A., is the Promotions Coordinator for 102.5 The Bone in Tampa, Fla. She has been married for 2 years.

Jennifer Spiegel, B.A., was just hired as an associate attorney at Hammerman & Hultgren, P.C. in Phoenix, Arizona.

Travis A. Miller, B.A., recently got married in January and moved from Kokomo to Indianapolis. While in Kokomo, he worked as a Producer-Director for Insight Media making local television commercials. Before he left the company, he was a two-time winner of the company's "Spot of the Quarter" Award for best commercial, and one of his spots was nominated for a 2005 CAB National award.

Rachel Binns, B.A., was to travel in October to Okinawa, Japan, as a lead writer for the BlueZones expedition. Okinawa is the first of four destinations where the group will seek to uncover the secrets of longevity. The quest will be followed via the Internet by children in classrooms all over the world and will also be featured on "Good Morning America," "National Geographic," and "AOL."

Marie Hernandez, B.A., is the new Events Manager at Purdue Memorial Union.

Stephanie Lane, B.A., is the Administrative Assistant for Phi Kappa Psi's Endowment Fund headquatered in Indianapolis, IN.

Tonya Simms, B.A., was recently promoted to Advertising and Event Manager at Baldwin & Lyons Inc. She oversees the design and implementation of all marketing campaigns, in addition to event planning.

Megan Finnerty, B.A., is a fashion and lifestyle reporter at the Arizona Republic. She writes for a weekly fashion section called YES (Your Essential Style) and also has her own local music column.

Daniel Rhodes, B.A., returned to Purdue as assistant director for membership and marketing for the Alumni Association.

Heather Muha-Schlotman, B.A., is working for Fox59 Morning News in Indianapolis as a producer. She also travels to L.A. and New York for movie junkets as a substitute for the station's entertainment reporter. She has interviewed some fabulous people including John Travolta, Cameron Diaz, Julie Andrews, Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, Matt Damon and many more.

Daniel Koutsis, B.A., will graduate with a master’s degree in Counseling Education from Northern Illinois University in May 2006.

Kelly Sole Odom, M.S., got married in October to Aaron Odom and has recently relocated to Portland, Maine.

Emily Smriga, B.A., accepted a position in January 2005 with Haan Marketing Communications in Lafayette, Ind., as a Copywriter. She is responsible for the creative development of marketing materials such as TV and radio commercials, brochures, newsletters, Web sites, annual reports, marketing plans, among many others. Some key clients she works with include the Purdue Athletics Department, Greater Lafayette Health Services, St. Clare Medical Center and Lafayette Bank & Trust.

2004

Jewanna Carver, B.A., is currently working for the American Osteopathic Association in Chicago, IL. She is the affiliate communications coordinator and primarily writes speeches for the association's Board of Trustees.

Phillip Clem, B.A., is a Territory Manager for a company called Kelley Medical. He covers the northern half of the state, and the company repairs and sells all surgical equipment.

Jennifer Lauren Allen, B.A., is working with a promotional products company called Bright Ideas in Broad Ripple! The company puts your logo on everything! She is doing a little bit of graphic design and learning a lot about sales and the marketing industry.

Heather Parsons, B.A., recently became engaged to Paul Mistretta, also a graduate of Purdue (BS Computer Science 2004). They are living in Illinois, and have an intended wedding date of Labor Day, 2007. She is working as a Marketing Assistant within the Fine Arts team at Sanford (Foohy, Mr. Sketch, and Prismacolor), and Paul is a Computer Programmer for Connamara.

Ashley Salge, B.A., has been working at an advertising agency called "seventwenty group advertising + design" in Indianapolis since September 2004 as a junior copywriter. Living in Broadripple with friends.

Ryan McKenna, B.A., is presently working in the software support division of a publishing company in Yarmouth, ME. "The job entails using pretty much every facet of interpersonal and small group COM that I learned at Purdue." He also works on the company's Airborne Digital Sensing platform known as "TopoBird." TopoBird does airborne digital survey, mapping and aerial imagery. He operates the survey equipment in the aircraft, as well as processing and preparing data collected, and engaging in flight planning as well as other managerial aspects of the project. The company was sought out to do some post-Katrina aerial imagery in downtown New Orleans by a few insurance agencies.

Kori Kamradt, B.A., now resides in the Washington, D.C. metro area and is the Hotel Editor at USAE Custom News in Bethesda, MD.

Amanda Brettnacher, B.A., is a sales and marketing coordinator for VMS in Indianapolis. She was placed at VMS through the Orr Fellowship, an initiative led by Indiana entrepreneurs determined to keep top graduates in our state.
