What a great time to be at Purdue!
I recently returned from our first "official" college alumni gathering in Chicago in some years. I was really pleased with the alumni turnout, particularly with the number of Communication alums who really provide the core of active Liberal Arts alumni. You will find a picture or two from this gathering in this issue of The Communicator. These are energizing events for all of us, and I'm really proud to be able to talk with attendees about the accomplishments of our faculty and students.

This spring has been busy for us. As the semester comes to an end and graduation events near, we prepare to honor outstanding students, faculty and alums. Our faculty continues to win awards, author books and articles, and increasingly bring in grant funds. This scholarly activity is crucial for efforts to maintain our "Top 10" national reputation. At the same time, we are really trying to expand research and instruction beyond the traditional classroom and involve our students in research and teaching that has an impact.

Our PR and marketing communication classes take on real world clients, and we have moved to improve the quality of our internship programs. Our video production students produce a very high quality television magazine show. We have attracted new corporate sponsors who have provided scholarships, travel support for undergraduates and new internship opportunities. Com Day 2006 was a great success with alumni from the region returning to share their experiences and recruit our outstanding students. We continue to partner with top universities abroad and with other colleges at Purdue.

At the same time … we need your support more than ever if we are to continue to provide a high quality experience for our undergraduate and graduate students. We are especially looking for support for graduate students this year, and we hope that all of you will consider some way to help us in this effort. Your support has made a difference and we thank you. Go Boilers!
