R. Wayne Pace, Ph.D., was recently recognized as one of the ten outstanding emeriti alumni (graduating before 1965) of Brigham Young University. Pace completed his doctoral work under W. Charles Redding and was Redding's first Ph.D. candidate. He is currently professor emeritus, organizational leadership, Marriott School of Management, Brigham Young University. Two new books will be released in 2006: one on the Aaronic Priesthood (CFI, Publishers), for members of the LDS Church and a second, called "The Frenetic Response" (R. Allen Enterprises), for people who feel overworked and overwhelmed in their lives.

Dean D. Craun, B.A., is Vice-Chairman and Director of Public Relations for the Minter Field Air Museum in Shafter, CA.
1968
Kenneth Paulin, M.A., (Ph.D., 1975), will present a program at the 2006 International Listening Association Conference. The title of his presentation is "Listening & Healing: Listening With A Loving Heart." Paulin has been serving in his community as a hospice volunteer for over 20 years and he will share with his "listening audience" some of the stories from these most "delicate" and meaningful communication experiences.

Blanton Croft, Ph.D., returned to the Virginia State Speech Championships as a finalist judge on April 1 to judge in the State Forensics Championships. It was his 13th year as a finalist judge! He is continuing as a visiting professor in Speech Comunication at Hagerstown Community College.

Mary Patitsas Giapponi, B.A., received her Master’s Degree in Business Communications from The Ohio State University.
1977
Michael J. Hyde, M.A., new book was recently published, "The Life-Giving Gift of Acknowledgement (A Philosophical And Rhetorical Inquiry)," by Purdue University Press 2006. Hyde is a University Distinguished Professor of Communication Ethics Fellow in the W. K. Kellogg Foundation Department of Communication at Wake Forest University.

Robert E. Denton, Jr., Ph.D., latest volume titled "Moral Leadership and the American Presidency" is his first trade book available in major bookstores across America and online at such sites as Forbes Book Club and the National Press Book Club. Denton has authored, co-authored or edited 17 books in the area of political communication and social influence.

Jon Nussbaum, Ph.D., a professor at Penn State University, is serving as president of the International Communication Association.
Bill Ennis, B.A., for the fourth year in a row, Ennis has been asked to produce the "Ms. Fitness USA" and "Ms. Fitness World" competitions for Fox Sports. The first show aired in early January. In addition, a recent student recruitment video he produced for Soka University of America was submitted by the university to the 20th Annual Admissions Advertising Awards, sponsored by the publication, "Admissions Marketing Report." The video came home with the Gold in the category "Video/CDROM Viewbook."
Garold L. (Gary) Markle, M.A., his book, "Catalytic Coaching: The End of the Performance Review," has sold out of its first five printings. Markle, owner of Energage Inc., recently signed a deal for a second book. He was also recently recognized as the TEC Canada Speaker of the Year. TEC is an acronym for "The Executive Committee" (www.teconline.com). It is the world's largest CEO-based organization boasting more than 12,000 members worldwide. He competed with over 2,000 speakers for this honor and has conducted more than 200 workshops for this organization over the past six years.He and his wife, Gail, just purchased a dream home on top of a mountain overlooking a beautiful river in Ellijay, Ga.

Scott A. Scales, B.A., approaching his 17th anniversary with Ameriprise Financial (formerly American Express Financial Advisors). He is a Senior Financial Advisor with Scales, Jacobs, Thacker and Associates in Newburgh, Ind. Scott has been married to fellow Purdue alumna Leesa (Rummel) for 22 years. Their two children, Meghan 16, and Stuart, 14, are "anxiously awaiting the start of their years at Purdue."
Jo Ann Klooz, B.A., joined Clarian Health Partners as a public relations specialist. Most recently she served 12 years as news anchor and traffic reporter for WIBC, and as a public affairs host for WNOU, WYXB and WENS.

April (Smith) Clark, B.A., had a recent article appear in the mid-winter issue of "Aspen Sojourner" magazine. Clark is a reporter and columnist for the Post Independent daily newspaper in Glenwood Springs, Colo., and is a freelance writer for several national publications and Web sites.

Jill Bode, B.A., of Designed Write Public Relations, Franklin, Ind., was a keynote presenter at the Business Network International (BNI) Conference in Long Beach, Calif., in November. “From PR to PRofit: Increasing Your BNI Bottom Line” was presented to 600+ BNI directors from more than 20 countries. Bode also recently addressed members of The Entrepreneurial Network in Columbus, Ind. In her presentation, “Recipe for a Well-Rounded Marketing Plan,” she addressed some important “ingredients” needed to start “cooking” with your marketing and public relations plans.

Bill Elwood, Ph.D., is the Scientific Review Administrator (SRA) for the National Institute for Health's Center for Scientific Review's Community-Level Health Promotion Study Section (CLHP). His scientific books and articles have concentrated on the attitudes and beliefs of hard-to-reach populations and the influences that cultural and personal values and community settings have on mental health, health-related behaviors, and participation in civic life. In November 2005, Elwood made three presentations on different aspects of NIH-funded research projects at the National Communication Association conference.

Jennifer (Rusinowski) Atwood, B.A., was married to Bill Atwood on Nov. 19, 2005. The couple make their home in Detroit, Mich. Jennifer does graphic design and brand management for Special Tree Rehabilitation System, where she has worked for 10 years.

Kristi Dwenger-Bourgeois, B.A., and her husband, Steve (Purdue BSME, '93), doubled their family on Nov. 21, 2005, when twins Max and Maggie were born. Kristi has returned to work as an Information Technology consultant and everyone seems to be adjusting to "a lifestyle that involves less dinners out but lots and lots of smiles from babies."

Kelly Kuhlenschmidt, B.A., started in radio at WAZY-FM as a Purdue student, and has been a morning radio personality (Kelly K) at WDJX-FM in Louisville and local TV personality for 7 years. "And now ... I'm finally getting married! Louisville ReMax realtor Michael Higdon surprised me on my morning radio show a month ago dressed as a 'knight in shining armor' and popped the question live on the air! We'll be married October 27, 2006, at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville."
Katie McCaskey, B.A., completed a Master's of Science in Digital Imaging and Design from NYU this past December. Recently she participated in a fine art gallery show "Cupidity" in Bethesda, Md. She continues to produce multimedia content for a variety of advertising, entertainment and new media clients through Katie McCaskey Design, based in Manhattan.

She oversees 7 recruiters and one administrative assistant and has hired on 40+ consultants in the last 6 months to add to the Bucher and Christian IT team.
Michael Weldy, B.A., and wife Kacie (OLS, 99) had their third child, Alexander Connor Weldy, born Aug. 23, 2005, 7lbs 13 oz, at 4:14 a.m.

Piper Manwarring-Roche, B.A., is currently working for General Dynamics Robotic Systems in business development. She focuses primarily on media relations and trade show coordination. The company's last two major media opportunities were a CNN interview and an article in the January issue of "Popular Science Magazine."

Megan Kearns (Thom), B.A., is currently living in Milwaukee with husband Tim, who works for General Electric. She had worked as a writer and editor for "Boating World" magazine in Atlanta and is still working for them on a freelance basis. She is currently pursuing her teaching certification and master's degree at Cardinal Stritch University to teach grades 1-8 and a certifiable minor in English.

David Quiroz Jr., B.A., and two other Purdue alumni (Josh Gershon and Aaron Rottinghaus, SLA '01) have completed an independent horror film called "The Lonely Ones," which has been picked up by York Entertainment for a release in May '06 to video stores everywhere. Christi M. Brooks, B.A., will be leaving for Zambia, Africa, in June with the Peace Corps working in Rural Aquaculture promotion.
A.J. Wesseler, B.A., has accepted a promotion to Human Resources Specialist and a transfer to Tucson, Ariz.
Teresa Smiley, B.A., is currently the Manager of Institutional Relations for Study Australia, a study abroad program provider based in Notre Dame, Ind., that facilitates study abroad programs to Australia and New Zealand. She is in charge of marketing and recruitment and travel to college campuses throughout the year. She will be presenting at the annual CIEE International Education Conference in Seville, Spain, in November on student privacy laws in other countries and how these laws compare to the laws in the United States.
Megan Funk, B.A., lives in St. Petersburg, Fla., recently left her position as Promotions Coordinator at Cox Radio, and took a new position as Marketing and Promotions Manager with Live Nation in Tampa, Fla., working at the Ford Amphitheatre. Live Nation is one of the world's largest diversified promoters and producers of venue operators and sponsorship/advertising for live entertainment events including music concerts. Her new position has her doing promotions and marketing for all concert tours routed through north and central Florida.

Craig Terrill, B.A., finished his second season as a defensive tackle for the Seattle Seahawks. He played in all 16 regular season games and three postseason games, including Super Bowl XL.

Emily Smriga, B.A., received the "Best of Show" award at the North Central Indiana Advertising Federation "ADDY Awards" on Feb. 22 for her script writing of the 2005 Purdue Athletic Department television campaign. The campaign consisted of five commercials set in a barbershop, where actors humorously discussed Purdue sports, and featured well-known faces such as Coach Joe Tiller, Coach Matt Painter and former football player Leroy Keyes. In addition to "Best of Show," Smriga also won Gold ADDY's for her writing of individual Purdue Athletics TV spots, as well as a Silver ADDY for her creative work on a branding campaign for St. Clare Medical Center in Crawfordsville. Her work will now be sent on to compete in the regional awards held in Detroit in April. Smriga is employed as a copywriter for Haan Marketing+Communications (HM+C) in Lafayette.
Terri Wetterberg, B.A., is Finance Secretary for Boy Scouts of America San Diego - Imperial Council.
Kari L. Miller, B.A., accepted a position within student affairs at Ohio State University working for its recreational sports department in July.
Lauren Wigginton, B.A., is currently working for Norton Healthcare in Louisville, Ky., in the development office as part of the communications team, whose work raises awareness (and funding) for four adult care hospitals and Kentucky's only free-standing, full-service pediatric hospital. She also just got married to Ryan Wigginton, a 2003 Aviation Technology grad from Purdue. The couple live in southern Indiana.
Kate Brandon, M.A., is directing the spring play, a thriller called "Wait Until Dark," for Biola University.

Ashley L. Gilbert, B.A., is a marketing communications specialist with Columbus, Ohio-based Adexis, a data storage technology company. She reports directly to the Director of Marketing, who reports directly to the CEO. "Having this hierarchy has only benefited me in the corporate world as I work closely inline with top executives daily." On a day-to-day basis she works with the marketing team, ad agencies and our partners to develop, oversee and execute: collateral materials, newsletters, direct mail programs, webinars, lead generation programs, e-marketing, special events, sales support, and PR-related activities. MaryKate McClain, B.A., has completed her master's in International Administration at the University of Denver and is now working at the Institute for Leadership and Organizational Performance at the Daniels College of Business.
Angela Weigelt, B.A., lives in Washington, D.C., and works for Congressman Chris Chocola as his legislative correspondent in the U.S. House of Representatives. When not at work on Capitol Hill, she is a fashion consultant with a business partnership under way.
Heather Parsons, B.A., received a promotion to work with the Channel team at Sanford Corporation (home to Sharpie, EXPO dry erase markers, Papermate, Rolodex, Sharpie Accent Highlighters, etc.). Channel is a division of marketing that serves as a liaison between brand marketing and sales. Her position oversees and coordinates all three divisions at Sanford, providing an excellent opportunity in account management and communication. She previously worked in brand marketing, serving as a marketing assistant to Fine Art (Prismacolor, Grumbacher) and Children's Marketing (i.e. Mr.Sketch, Foohy) offering insight to product development, promotion, and execution.
Jennifer Allen, B.A., is currently working in the promotional products industry at Bright Ideas in Broad Ripple, located in Indianapolis, Ind. "I love working here and have learned so much! I am also starting to get more into the graphics design aspect and am enjoying every minute of it here!"
David Dinn, M.A., and his wife recently welcomed their second child, Daniel Emmett Dinn. He weighed in at eight pounds, four ounces, and was 20 and 3/4 inches long! Dinn accepted a full-time, permanent position with Aegis Therapies working as a Rehab Program Coordinator at a small skilled nursing facility in Greencastle, Ind. Last year he completed the requirements to earn the title of Orthopaedic Certified Specialist from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.
Micah Leigh Howard, B.A., in June 2005, moved to Washington, D.C., to work for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (yes, like the TV show). "I'm using both my Purdue majors/degrees and having a great time in the nation's capital!"

Leia Vincent, B.A., has been working for a year as a publicist in Chicago at Blanco & Peace Enterprises. They handle publicity for major authors and book tours, restaurant openings and celebrations, event publicity, and the occasion movie or celebrity. They handle clients like Chicago's Hard Rock Cafe's 20th Anniversary Celebration and Summer Concert Series. They also are doing the publicity for legendary rock band STYX and their local activities in their hometown of Chicago. Her biggest account is the Mrs. International Pageant system. She secures event invitations and media placements for the crowned Mrs., Miss and Miss Teen International, as well as publicity for the actual international pageants that are held in Chicago in July each year, including escorting around an A&E crew who filmed last year's pageant for their reality show "Airline." "It worked well for me to continuously apply and interview until I found a public relations job that suited my personal interests."
