| Department alumna named new women's basketball coach |
Sharon Versyp, B.A., 1989, is the new Purdue women's basketball head coach.
Versyp comes to Purdue after one year as head coach at Indiana University, where she guided the Hoosiers to a 19-14 overall record. Versyp owns a 117-65 record in six seasons as an NCAA Division I head coach. She is the first Indiana Miss Basketball player to attend Purdue. She remains one of only seven players in Purdue
history to start all four years; she started 97 of 113 games played. |

Alumnus receives
business award
Mark A. Krentz, B.A., 1975, and his wife, Laura, accept the Governor's Business Award from Gov. Mitch Daniels and Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman in Indianapolis in November 2005.
Krentz is the President/CEO of Thanhardt-Burger Corporation in La Porte, Ind. The 79-year-old family-owned and operated business specializes in the manufacturing of handmade picture frames. Krentz also presides over the sister company, W.T. Burger Co., Inc., which is a wholesale resource of original oil paintings available to the interior design trade. |

Alumna Establishes New Teaching Award |
Carolyn Roberts Planck, M.A., 1967, and her husband, Gary, bequested a generous amount to establish an outstanding teaching award in the department.
Planck, executive director of donor and external relations at Rollins College, said she wanted to establish the award out of the appreciation for fine teachers, such as Professor Charles Stewart, whose influence inspired her career.
In addition to her work at Rollins in institutional advancement, Planck is also an adjunct professor in the Rollins' Department of Communication, where she teaches assorted classes and holds the Distinguished Teaching Award.
A recognized consultant in the field of communication, she has worked extensively with companies such as Walt Disney World, and is a longtime course leader for the American Management Association, for which she travels nationally to develop the communication skills of corporate leaders.

Betsy Wiersma, B.A., 1983, and owner of Wiersma Experience Marketing, has created a luxury retreat that raises money for charity.
To be held July 19-21, 2006, CampExperience is a retreat designed exclusively for women. With 25 national speakers and activity leaders, CampExperience features a structure of keynote presentations and workshop "tracks" including: Leadership, Success Skills, Optimum Health, Creativity & Activities, Personal Services and "Excellent Adventures." One hundred percent of camp on-site activities, including shopping and personal services, will be donated to the camp's charity partners: Warren Village and Partners in Housing. Campers will also donate in-kind goods and services from the charities' wish lists. Both Warren Village and Partners in Housing are nonprofit organizations whose mission is to promote personal and economic self-sufficiency through three integrated services: affordable housing, family services and quality child care. |

Angie Klink, B.A., 1981, had her lift-the-flap children's book, "Purdue Pete Finds His Hammer," released in November 2005. The book continues to be highly successful in sales as it connects with children, Purdue alumni and fans.
"It is most heartwarming when I hear that a child wants to read the book night after night. There is no better accolade!"
