Four department alumni chosen
as 2005 Old Masters

Four department alumni returned to campus in November as part of Purdue's Old Masters program. The alumni met with students, guest lectured in classes, and attended public receptions.
The department's Old Masters were:
Andrew Maner, was appointed by President George W. Bush in January 2004 as the chief financial officer for the Department of Homeland Security. As the CFO, Maner is responsible for all budget, finance and accounting, strategic planning and evaluation, GAO liaison, bankcard programs, and financial systems for the department. DHS is the third largest cabinet agency in government with over 180,000 employees and a budget of nearly $40 billion.
Julian Phillips joined FOX News Channel as an anchor and general assignment reporter in October 2002. Currently, he serves as an anchor for "Fox & Friends Weekend." He is a two-time Emmy Award winner and eight-time nominee. He is also the recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award for excellence in journalism. Phillips was the recipient of the 1989 Liberal Arts Distinguished Alumni Award, and he is a current member of the Liberal Arts Dean's Advisory Council.
Max Armstrong is one of the most widely recognized and highly regarded agriculture journalists in America. He is co-founder and co-host of This Week In AgriBusiness, one of the new shows on the RFD-TV satellite channel. His syndicated television broadcasts have been seen each weekend since 1977 on over 180 local television stations coast-to-coast. His Tribune Radio Network program Farming America is carried on a network of 165 radio stations nationwide.
Teresa Roche is vice president of Global Learning and Leadership Development at Agilent Technologies. In this role, Teresa is the lead architect and portfolio manager for the company's learning and leadership development solutions. Her team is geographically distributed, providing an exciting opportunity to learn from diverse perspectives around the world. Teresa has co-authored a chapter in "Leading the Global Workforce" published by Linkage Inc. and has been honored with a Leading the Global Workforce Best Practice Award.

Alumni Visits :
Len Cox, M.A., 1996, currently consultant to Disney and Oxygen, and owner of River Films, visited Oct. 27. He met with interested students.
Christine Troglio, M.S., campus relations representative (talent management) at Caterpillar, had lunch with undergraduate honors students.
Chrissy Harrison, B.A., 1990, advertising director at Purdue Exponent, spoke to Robin Clair's advertising class.
Laura Bukowski, B.A, 2000, of Starcom Media, who has worked major accounts such as Crest, Proctor & Gamble, Minute Maid, and Disney, spoke to Robin Clair's advertising class.
Laura Vercler, M.S., 2004, Press Ganey Associates, participated in a graduate student colloquium on how to find a non-academic job.
Paul Krivonos, Ph.D., 1975, recently of Cal-State Fullerton, visited the department during Homecoming. |

Top 25 Leaders
In October, department alumnus Brian Lamb was initiated into the Indiana Broadcast Hall of Fame. Lamb also was profiled in the Oct. 31 issue of U.S. News & World Report as one of America's "Top 25 Leaders" (selected by Harvard's Kennedy School of Government).
When asked to name leaders who inspire him, Lamb responded: "I tend to admire people I know, school teachers at Jeff (Lafayette's Jefferson High School) and professors from Purdue." |

| Distinguished alumna Carolyn Curiel, a former speech writer for President Clinton and U.S. ambassador to Belize, met with department students during a Purdue visit in April. Curiel currently serves on the editorial board of the New York Times. |
