C-SPAN Founder Lamb Receives Truman Award 

Department alumnus Brian Lamb was the recipient of the 2003 Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award.

The award, presented by the Truman Good Neighbor Award Foundation, honors people who have improved the community and the country through citizenship, patriotism, self-reliance and service.

Previous recipients of the award include Bob Dole, former U.S. senator and Republican presidential candidate; Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf; and astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

Lamb helped form C-SPAN, the Cable Satellite Public Affairs Network, in 1979.

Vanessa Castagna, a 1971 department graduate and the executive vice president, chairman and CEO of J.C. Penney Stores, catalog and Internet, returned to campus this fall as part of the Old Masters program.

She was recently named to Fortune Magazine's Top 50 women in business.

Castagna serves on the boards of the Fashion Institute of Technology Educational Foundation, the National Minority Supplier Development Council and the J.C. Penney Afterschool Fund.

She graduated in 1971 from Purdue with a bachelor's degree in psychology and speech communication.

 

The Communicator is the official alumni publication of the Department of Communication at Purdue University. It is published twice yearly by students in COM252 under the supervision of adviser Jane Gibson Natt.
