Important! Before uploading your document, you will need to remove author information so that reviewers will not be able to discover who submitted the essay.

In Microsoft Word for Office 2010 on Windows, open the document and click on the "File" tab at the top right. "Info" should be selected on the left, click on the "Check for Issues" button in the middle and choose "Inspect Document". Check only "Document Properties and Personal Information" and then click "Inspect" at the bottom. Click "Remove All" to remove the author information, now save your document and you are ready to upload.

In Microsoft Word for Office 2007 on Windows, open the document and click on the large circle Office icon in the top left. Hover over the "Prepare" menu item and then select "Inspect Document". On the Document Inspector window select only "Personal Information" and click "Inspect". Choose "Remove All" to remove the author information. Save your document and you are ready to upload.

In Microsoft Word for Office 2003 on Windows, open the document and then in the menu bar at the top, choose Tools and then Options. In the Security tab under Privacy options, click to select "Remove personal information from file properties on save" check box, then click OK. Back in your document, make sure you re-save it so that the personal information is removed. Now you are ready to upload.

In Microsoft Word for Office 2004 on Mac with the document open, go to the "Word" drop-down menu in the top left of the application. Select "Preferences". This opens a new panel, from this select "Security" from the headings on the left. Once you have highlighted "Security" a set of options will show up to its right. Under the heading "Privacy Options" tick the box labelled "Remove Personal Information from this file on save". Now save the document.
