It is an exciting and positively challenging time to serve as Head of the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University (BLSC)!
Our School is named after Brian Lamb, an alumnus and founder of C-SPAN and one of only two Purdue alumni to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The BLSC is a vibrant community of scholars, undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, community partners, friends, and supporters. We are a unit within Purdue’s College of Liberal Arts. We are academic home to more than 650 undergraduates majors and 80 graduate students. The undergraduate program has five majors including General Communication, Corporate Communication, Public Relations and Strategic Communication, Human Relations, and Mass Communication. The graduate program is organized into five instructional units including Health Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Media Technology and Society, Organizational Communication, and Public Relations. There are numerous opportunities for interdisciplinary and intercultural study. Our current and former students traverse the world and include olympians, a Pulitzer Prize winner, legislators, CEOs, community organizers, famous authors, filmmakers, attorneys, professors, government researchers, and more. Our faculty include award-winning teachers and scholars, media professionals, the director of C-SPAN’s Video Archives, and a former United States Ambassador.
Our mission is to further Brian Lamb’s legacy by embracing the values of openness and innovation in communication, while continuing to build upon our tradition of excellence in communication scholarship, education, leadership, and engagement. In our teaching, research, and engagement with the community we value excellence, integrity, collegiality, innovation, entrepreneurship, public service, diversity, and global citizenship.
I am proud to be a member of the BLSC. As Interim Head, I will facilitate the important work of our faculty, students, and staff while embracing our community writ large. Two of my goals for the BLSC are to:
- Raise the profile of our many engagement efforts such as the new Purdue Institute for Civic Communication, the Purdue Peace Project, Fast Track, the Petticrew Debate Program, Motorcycle Safety at Purdue, among others.
- Effectively interact with our diverse constituencies on campus, in our local community, and across the nation and globe through social media and other outlets.
Please join in the excitement surrounding the BLSC by reviewing our website and interacting with us. If you have questions, ideas, and/or you want to share or need information. You may contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or 765-494-7596.
