Fast Track Anchors

Under the bright lights you’re melting; the floor director is telling you to sit up straight. He counts down …5…4…3…2…1; you’re on!

An anchor for Fast Track newsmagazine has many exciting opportunities available to them. As an anchor you’ll have the opportunity to get many hours in front of the camera. You’ll be able to practice reading from a teleprompter and get a true experience on what it’s like in a real newsroom. Many young broadcasters will benefit from their experience in front of the camera to get great footage for their resume tapes. You can learn the proper pronunciation, inflection, and practice your composure on-air. You get to work with skilled directors and see what it’s like hosting your very own news program, and did I mention you’re on T.V.?

Christopher Panzica
I am glad you stopped by the Fast Track website. I am from South Bend, Indiana, and a graduating senior here at Purdue. I have been involved in broadcasting since my early days in high school. Throughout my experiences, I have been exposed to such aspects as producing, directing, post-production, graphics, anchoring, and mainly every area of broadcasting. Along with my background in television, I have been involved in radio as an on-air announcer for the past 5 years. I have always loved media in general and have been striving to excel in as many aspects of it as I can.

Mary Rachel Dick
Hello, my name is Mary-Rachel Dick and I am a senior majoring in Telecommunications here at Purdue. I am one of the anchors for Fast Track and also put together the Community Calendar. I love working with the rest of the news team and being behind the camera. In the future I’d like to be a sideline reporter for ESPN covering all the major sporting events including basketball and football. My biggest inspiration is my father, Gary Dick, who is also in my chosen profession. He hosts Inside Indiana Business on WTHR channel 13 in Indianapolis. I am a member of Chi Omega sorority and in the small amount of free time I have I enjoy hanging out with my sorority sisters, and doing freelance television work. I have two younger brothers, one will be playing football at DaPauw in the fall, and the other will be in 8th grade at Belzer Middle School. My mom is currently the cheerleading coach at Lawrence Central High School.

Alex Bataclan
Hey, I’m Alexander Bataclan and I hail from Manila, Philippines but I consider Los Angeles, CA as my second home. Currently, I am a senior at Purdue University and I am active in several school organizations, as well as with charitable groups in the local community. I love art and eclectic music, and I am often known to burst out into song and dance at the drop of a hat. I dream of someday being actively involved in the mainstream news and public affairs arena, as well as continue my dream of becoming a vocal performer. I live by this motto: “I stand and I fall, but in the mean time, I keep singing and dancing.”

Claire McCormick
Hello, I’m Claire McCormick. I’m the B segment anchor and head writer for Fast Track. I’m a senior majoring in journalism and I have a minor in sociology. I’ve had internships with various media outlets including Emmis Communications in Indianapolis, IN and MSNBC on Scarborough Country in New York City. I plan to graduate with honors in May and pursue a career as a news anchor. I’d eventually like to end up with my own nightly news program or talk show. My inspirations include Oprah Winfrey, David Letterman, Diane Sawyer, and my mother. Hopefully, Fast Track will be my stepping stone into a long and successful career in broadcast.
